We're off to Oman in January (9 days!) and would appreciate any trip
reports, info. etc about the destination. I believe that the Nabucco Extra
Divers Resort was formally the Oman Dive Centre- can anyone confirm this?

Can't help you with any info about Oman/Nabucco but I am thinking of going
there next Feb with my wife (non diver)so would be VERY interested in what
you have to say about this destination.

When will you be back???

We get back at the end of Jan so will give you feedback then. The other half
usually puts photos on his website so I'll post directions to the pics. when
we get back.

Have just got back (well one week ago, but it takes time to get round to
downloading computers and cameras you know) from 9 nights in Oman, at the
Oman Dive Centre, or as it now seems to be called the Nabucco Extra Divers
resort, Muscat.

I have updated my website with some details of the place, the diving and
also added bucket loads of pictures (both of Oman above the surface, and
it's underwater critters). If you want more info then please try one of
these hyperlinks:

http://www.stensones.com/photos/photos_oman.asp (photos of the surface)
http://www.stensones.com/diving/dive_photos_oman.asp (photos taken during
the dives)http://www.stensones.com/holidays/holidays_oman.asp (general Oman
holiday info)
http://www.stensones.com/diving/dive_sites_oman.asp (a Oman diving intro)

Would recommend Oman for a diving trip to anyone, its very pleasant place,
and provides a quite relaxed and uncrowded winter sun diving break.

There was not much to do for the non diver at our hotel, so those of you
with non-divers in their party might do well to use a larger 5 start hotel
with greater facilities. More on the website.

I remember having waited for your report.
So, many thanks!

You had really luck to be able to watch the cuttlefish
wedding. Excellent pics. In Yemen, we observed the beginning
of the mating ceremonies ( as invited guests) , the male and
the femalee had already succeeded in synchronizing their
colour and geometric patterns, when some rude diver
approached w/o being invited. The male got nervous, lost his
sync, and the female interest. Sad.

How abundant were the fish? On the other side of the Arab
Sea, near Al Mukalla, Yemen, fish were so many that they
lacked places to sleep.

And yes the fish were highly abundant, easily on a par with Dahab, or Ras
Mohamed, but I cant say there would have been any shortage of sleeping
accommodation :-)

I was in Muscat for 6 months last year - did a fair bit of diving
there. The best site, IMO, is the shipwreck. Good penetration for all
levels, and besides, it is a wreck! Demaniyat was ok, but the rest of
the reefs left me a little blah (but the more I dive now, the more I
realize how spoiled I have gotten from diving daily in the Andamans)

I dived with Jannick, of Global Scuba (http://www.global-scuba.com/) -
he was a lot more flexible and able to structure dive trips around my
requirements/interests.

Muscat Divers were good as well, actually - I completed a friend's OW
course, and they were kind enough to loan me gear at fairly reasonable
rates, and let me use their pool for the CW sessions.

There isnt much to do in Muscat, period. I would suggest the Chedi as
a place for people to stay. Having been a consultant and spent a vast
part of the last decade living in hotels, I get jaded - but the Chedi
was really special.

Hi Suzie

Couldn't wait for your trip report as I saw Regaldive have an offer on
Nabucco so I have booked for Feb already.

Have a good trip and look forward to your report.
